North Carolina, October 18, 2012

Kitty Hawk, N.C.

The Wright Bros. museum in Kill Devil Hills, N.C.

This is where the brothers lived and worked on their plans to build a "flying machine"

The "hangar"

These white markers represent the distance the "flyer" went each time it flew

"Kill Devil Hill", where the brothers first tried to take off from

Going across the outer banks

The Atlantic is on the other side of these dunes

Roadworkers are constantly moving sand back on to the dunes

Look closely for the eyes...sand crab

Anyone remember this house made famous in a movie?

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

Another ferry ride, this time to Ocracoke

We were squeezed on to this one!

The same kind of ferry the love shack was on....

  1. I really loved talking to you as you traveled through the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It is such an amazing, rugged and yet fragile place. Now you have seen more of the OBX than I have! I love my little island in NC too and I hope that we will be able to spend some time together there soon. Carolina Beach and Wilmington Beach are wonderful too.
