Second day at Grand Canyon.  Picture 1 &2 are two friends we met going to the edge of the Canyon.

Trail going down to the Colorado River from the top near the El Tovar Hotel.  It is 7 miles walking down, easy, walking back up another story.

One of many trees growing out of the rocks.
The top layers where dated with plaques as to when they were formed.

Tremendous rock sculptures sticking out everywhere.

View to the bottom past an outreach of rock.

Over the top view of the Colorado way down there.

Colorado flowing thru lower Canyon.

El Tovar Hotel at top of Canyon sort of the central tourist area.

  1. I'm glad you got to see the GC. I wish it was clear. I've heard that the haze comes partly from the coal-burning Navajo generating station up near Page, AZ... to the East. A Flickr friend was there earlier, with clouds, cool, and infinite views. I was there in winter, and it was always clear, The North rim is completely different -- higher, beautifully-forested; and there you drive out on land peninsulas a long way to see the canyon... and you can look down on every side except the way you drove in.
